Adelante Teens connect with San Antonio Youth Center

It’s been an exciting summer for four Latino youth from Toledo, Ohio as they visited San Antonio, Texas and volunteered their time at San Juan Community Center. Students assisted in the center’s summer enrichment program that provides services for over 90 student’s k-8th grade on a daily basis.


Jazz group New York Voices to perform at BGSU

BOWLING GREEN: Area audiences will have the opportunity to enjoy the unique vocal style and harmonies of the New York Voices when the a cappella group returns to Bowling Green State University in August. They will be giving three concerts, at 8 p.m. Aug. 3, 5 and 7, 2010, in Bryan Recital Hall of the Moore Musical Arts Center. The concerts complement the vocal jazz camp taught by members of the multiple Grammy Award-winning ensemble that week.


Workshop to train area professionals in family violence prevention program

Area school counselors and other professionals in social services, criminal justice, education, medicine and related fields will be trained this week to conduct a family violence prevention program.

Latino scholars, béisbol, & culture recognized at Latino Heritage Day with the Toledo Muds Hens
July 25, 2010: After days of inclement weather, the 8th Annual Latino Scholarship Day with the Toledo Mud Hens realized excellent weather along with baseball and Latino excitement in the form of entertainment by Folkloric Dance group Imagenes Mexicanas and Mariachi Guadalajara, at Fifth Third Field in downtown Toledo.

Music, drums, and colorful costumes filled Wade Oval as the 21st International Folk Festival made its debut in open air on July 18, 2010. The annual celebration of cultures and their musical heritage usually takes place at Playhouse Square to raise funds for the International Service Center located at 1859 Prospect Ave., Cleveland.



Partners In Education Dragon Boat Festival Results
Over forty teams participated in this year’s Dragon Boat Festival, held July 24, 2010. The 40-foot long Dragon Boats, including dragon head and tail, successfully raced down the Maumee River, Toledo, despite the heat and humidity. 


U-M applications, projected freshman enrollment reach all-time high 

June 30, 2010: For the fourth consecutive year, the University of Michigan received a record number of applications from prospective freshmen, and applications and paid deposits are up for underrepresented minority students. 


Week of Action to Protest Arizona’s Anti-Immigrant Law

July 29, 2010 marks the enactment date of Arizona’s anti-immigrant law, SB 1070.  Across Michigan, supporters of just immigration reform are taking action to demand the repeal of SB 1070 and to oppose proposed copycat legislation here in Michigan.


La Sagrada Familia Festival  Schedule

La Sagrada Familia, located at 7719 Detroit Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44102, will have its annual Fiestas Patronales.

A variety of ethnic cuisine will be available including Puerto Rican, Peruvian, Salvadorian, and Mexican food. Musical guests include Grupo Fuego, and Esencia. The festival will also feature crafts, a beer garden, a raffle prize of $10,000 or the prize of a 2010 Chevy Cobalt, said Ines Rosa, festival secretary.
