Battle of
the Badges: Firefighters and Law Enforcement Officers join
forces to help patients in need
Firefighters and police officers often are close to the need for
blood, responding to emergency situations throughout the year.
Starting December 19th, officers joined forces at the American
Red Cross Toledo Blood Donor Center, 3510 Executive Parkway, to
kick off their 18th annual Battle of the Badges campaign.
Battle of
the Badges is held each year to help the Red Cross maintain
blood levels during the holiday season. It is a friendly
competition between fire and police officers to see who can
bring in the most blood donations and votes; in the end,
hospital patients in need are the real winners.
The Battle
will continue at the Toledo Blood Donor Center until January 7,
2012, where donors will vote for their favorite department.
During the campaign anyone who comes to donate blood will
receive a special Battle of the Badges t-shirt along with a
coupon for a free breakfast to Uncle John’s Pancake House,
located at the corner of Central and Secor Streets, Toledo.
“Donating
blood is a great way for everyone in the community to show
support for local heroes. The need for blood is constant and you
never know when you or someone you care about may need it,” said
Don Baker, CEO for the Western Lake Erie Region of the American
Red Cross. “We hope everyone will come to donate blood and vote
for their favorite department during this friendly rivalry.”
