UT’s
Ritter Planetarium reopens
The University of Toledo’s Ritter Planetarium prepares for its
public grand reopening Saturday, Oct.
29, 2011 offering new 3-D, 6.5 million pixel immersive
experiences. Ritter Planetarium is located just east of
University Hall on UT’s Main Campus.
UT
will screen “Black Holes: The Other Side of Infinity,” narrated
by Liam Neeson, across Ritter Planetarium’s 40-foot dome.
UT is the only facility in the country to have installed the new
Spitz SciDome XD, a digital projector with more than twice the
resolution of the best HD television screens.
“Viewers are going to be absolutely blown away by the visual
effects we’re now able to project,” said Dr. Michael
Cushing,
UT assistant professor of astronomy and director of
Ritter Planetarium. “Everyone from the person who can name every
constellation in the sky to those unfamiliar with astronomy will
walk away with a better understanding of science and with a
really exciting experience.”
In addition to the projector, the planetarium’s exterior was
refurbished, and the carpet and seats were replaced.
The Ritter Planetarium will offer four free screenings at its
public grand reopening Oct. 29
at 2, 4, 6 and 8 p.m. General
admission for future shows will be $6 for adults and $5 for
children.
