Lorain’s PRIDE
Initiative: Helping Residents through Tough Times
Lorain’s PRIDE Initiative
offers the residents of Lorain several programs that can help
them deal with issues brought on by job loss. In order to
qualify for PRIDE programs, residents can be screened at any one
of several locations.
HOW SCREENING WORKS:
When a resident of the city of Lorain comes in for a screening,
they receive a screening tool that they use to answer a set of
survey questions regarding; general information, family,
employment, medical needs, and overall health/health habits.
Screenings are completely confidential. The tool assigns a
unique 8-digit ID number as an identifier to each client, so
that they may use this number for programs that they may be
referred to. Screenings can take as little as five minutes or
not more than 20 minutes depending on the client’s answers to
the questions.
Once the client completes
the questions on the screening tool, the tool is placed on a
docking station, and the information is downloaded into a
computer. The information is processed by the computer, and the
client receives a print-out with custom-made referrals to
various programs based on how the questions were answered
through the screening tool.
Some of the more popular
programs so far have been; the JOBS employability skills
workshop and the medical vouchers programs. Many clients have
also utilized the available transportation vouchers to attend
programs that qualify. Other popular programs include;
Strengthening families, Brief Couples Counseling, Older Adult
Depression Therapy, and 12-STEP Facilitation.
