Detroit Institute of Arts celebrates Japan’s
Girl’s Day
WHAT:
A special day of programming in celebration of
Hinamatsuri,
Japanese Girl’s Day. This annual holiday is observed in Japanese
families, and it is a day to pray for the health and happiness
of young girls in Japan.
Activities include: tea ceremony demonstration;
Furoshiki wrapping (decorative pieces of cloth used
as recyclable gift wrap); Obi sash tying;
Ikebana flower arrangements
created by Toshiko Shimoura; and a display of
hina dolls traditionally seen in Japanese homes
during this celebration.

Detroit Institute of Arts, 5200 Woodward Avenue,

COST:
Free with museum admission.
OTHER:
The program is a collaboration of Friends of Art & Flowers, a
DIA volunteer support group, and the
Consulate General of Japan in Detroit and the Japan
Society of Detroit Women’s Club.
Hours and Admission
10 a.m.–4 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m.–10 p.m.
Fridays, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Admission is $8
for adults, $6 for seniors, $4 for ages 6-17, and free for DIA
