$2.96 million Recovery Act Grant to create jobs, boost
development in Fremont
WASHINGTON, D.C., June 23, 2009: U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary
Locke today announced a $2.96 million Economic Development
Administration (EDA) grant to the city of Fremont, Ohio to help
make water infrastructure improvements to serve business needs.
The project, made possible because of the American Recovery
and Reinvestment Act of 2009, is expected to
create additional jobs and private investment in the region.
“The Obama Administration is committed to creating jobs,
encouraging innovation and improving our nation’s economic
competitiveness,” Locke said. “This grant will help put
people back to work and boost private investment by providing
the critical infrastructure needed to retain the city’s largest
employer and to attract new businesses and industry to the
region.”
The Recovery Act was signed into law by President Barack Obama
on February 17, 2009. It is providing immediate relief for
American families and jump-starting billions of dollars in new
projects that are creating jobs, improving infrastructure and
strengthening local economies.
“Last year I discussed water and sewer infrastructure needs with
Mayor Overmyer at a roundtable I held in Fremont,”
U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown said. “Improving Ohio’s aging water
systems is key to economic growth. These Recovery Act funds will
help Fremont attract jobs and spur future economic development
in the region.”
